REPORTING TO: VP of Manufacturing Operations
LOCATION: Westborough, MA
GENERAL FUNCTION: The Senior Buyer obtains materials, components, equipment, and services. Checks requisitions, obtains quotations, and examines bids. Coordinates purchasing activities with incoming quality, manufacturing, engineering and program management departments, maintaining inventory at planned levels. Monitors cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for procurement and sourcing activities at Kopin, minimizing any shortage situations.
- Ensure Kopin receives the best price (including price, quality, terms and logistics) for all purchases
- Is cognizant and uses best practices when issuing purchase orders to ensure all information is correct for receiving and accounts payable to proceed, and ensuring appropriate flow-downs from customer contracts are met by vendors
- Coordinate and negotiate terms (price, quantity, delivery date, and quality/acceptance criteria with support from engineering and program managers)
- Provide direction and sourcing expertise on Kopin production needs
- Perform annual competitive bidding on Kopin requirements
- Use Plex and Omnify systems to drive purchasing decisions and requirements to suppliers
- Enforce and guide appropriate use of systems
- Assist Planning for appropriate inventory control.
- Primary business interface with all suppliers, while developing strong business relationships with them
- Facilitate supplier meetings as required with key suppliers to ensure business objectives are being met
- Work with AP to resolve invoice issues
- Provide fair and concise direction to suppliers
- Other duties as assigned by management
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- REQUIRED: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. As a defense contractor Kopin is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position
- Minimum 8 years’ professional purchasing experience within the high-tech industry required
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Organized, self-motivated, able to work independently, strong business judgment, negotiation
- Very strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to continuously improve processes
- Ability to negotiate with suppliers for continuous cost reduction
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP Systems
- Demonstrated ability to constructively participate as a member of a cross-functional team
- Trustworthy
- Able to accomplish buying activities within the ERP system
- Able to intelligently manage suppliers to avoid unnecessary issues

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to rotate from sitting to standing, lift 10 pounds, and gown according to clean room protocol
